Summer 2016 List

I am a lister. My lists have lists. Those lists have lists. I wish I was kidding I love lists! They GSD (get sh*t done!). I prefer fun lists to chore lists, duh, so with that...here is my Summer 2016 to do list.

1. Canoe/fishing trip -in the works for August (done and it was amazing!)

2. Train and Run a 5km race (it's my marathon, don't judge..ran it 4 times wooot!)

3. Print album of Asia trip - sort through 3000 photos :( (shit still not done this)

4. Landscape the front of our house (argh, I hate this one already)  (done)

5. Make a succulent centerpiece

6. Figure out how to do a backyard movie and host a party (Weekend at Bernie's - it's happening!) (Happened...it was the best!)

7. Go on a hike/picnic (done, went for my birthday!)

8. Learn how to fully cut/groom Finnegan. Quick story: Last summer he was skinned cut into a french poodle. This year (at a new groomer) she ignored all requests, cut him down (not to french poodle, but) far down enough he got razor burn and hot spots and I got $200 vet bill and one miserable puppy. So I think it's time I figure this one out for both Finn and I's sake. His haircut inspiration (yes, dogs have this too) is Professor Ramen on Instagram - look him up!

The poodle cut as it grew out

This Friday is Canada Day, so we are headed to camp to swim, fish, get some sun and finish up the new fire pit. Between all of us there are 3 dogs, so to get them into the spirit (because I am sure they will care), I have decided to make Canada themed dog bandanas. Yup, I'm going there and I cannot wait. When I was at the fabric store a girl gave me a nod and said "dog bananas?" I was like "yuuup!" "been there" she said, "totally worth it." I just made him an everyday chic plaid one see below, it was surprisingly easy for not using a sewing machine.

Finally, for your summer long weekend pleasure make either of these killer blender drinks  Moijto recipe HERE OR Margarita recipe HERE.

Happy Sipping!

Summer Salads

I love me some fun salads in the summer. I am always looking for new salad inspiration, although I pretty much stick to the same things - spinach, avocados, nuts and add fun extras. My new favourite thing to add is quinoa - that stuff literally goes well with everything! Here are a few recent salads:

Summer Salad - Strawberry, quinoa, pecan, almond, avocado, spinach salad
For the dressing I did a mix of 1/2 creamy poppyseed and 1/2 balsamic glaze

Vegan - Buddha Bowl with roasted chic peas, quinoa, kale, spinach, avocado with red pepper dressing. Recipe HERE

This will be you after eating this salad...

Eating a salad got me feeling healthy AF

Enjoy :)

Happy 2nd Birthday Finnegan!

Happy 2nd Birthday to our fur baby - Finnegan!

I am totally biased, but he is the cutest, smartest, best dog in the world! Dogs have such a knack for knowing when you need comforting and although sometimes I think he only consoles me because he wants to eat my Kleenex, I couldn't be more thankful to have him, especially with everything going on this last year.

He has made into an obsessive walker and runner and instilled in me a need to get outside and play everyday. He brightens our day, everyday and never ceases to make us laugh. He is also a huge pain in the ass and for that I love him even more!

Happy Birthday Finny!

My Makeup Favourites Plus Where I Save and Where I Splurge

The running joke in my family (amoungst the women) is my sad makeup collection, made up of lots of left overs from my mother and sister. My sister has a makeup collection that would make any woman drool. I would say its more of an obsession then a collection actually. You name the lipstick she has it...and almost everything from the In Style Best Beauty Buys. I am not complaining as she frequently gifts me with her last season colours. Don't get me wrong I also have a collection I love!

I love finding out what other people use as there are so many gems that you otherwise would not know about.  Here are some of my favourites including the ones I save or splurge on.

Save:

Foundation: Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (Colour: True Ivory)
Wake me Up Foundation

I have tried so many  expensive foundations, until I tried this one. There is no going back, it is literally so good! It goes on light and smooth and has a great colour. You can usually find it on sale every couple months at Shoppers for $7-$10. Well worth a try!

Mascara: L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black

Again what woman has not tired a million mascaras, Dior Show, volumizer this and lengthener that. My go to is still this Loreal Voluminous. It lasts a long time, does not clump, always goes on nice and you can relayer if needed. Tip: With a new one I sometimes have to wipe off the whole wand a few times to get rid of some goop becomes it comes loaded, then it goes on nicer with less of a mess. Cost: about $6-$8

Splurge:

Concealer: Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer (Colour: Ivory)
Cle de Peau Concealer - Must have makeup item

I love this little magic stick. Goodbye anything you don't want showing (including freckles, dark spots, dark circles, blemishes etc) hello awake eyes and clear face. This is one expensive concealer at about $70USA (or whatever depressing Canadian amount that turns into)...but the good news is... it lasts! My first one went for over a year, so price per use is still okay! Once you try this one, there is no going back.

General Favourites:

Bronzer: Soleil Matte Bronzer by Too Faced (Colour: Milk Chocolate)

Being so damn pale fair skinned, bronzer is required in my daily routine. This one goes on lightly, with no orange, only light chocolate base - I mean literally cocoa, which gives it an amazing chocolate scent. I love it, its mid range price for a bronzer at $38 from Sephora.

Lipgloss:  Marvelous Moxie by bareMinerals (Colour: Life of the Party)

It's not as shockingly bright as it looks. This great colour has the perfect amount of shine, but is not sticky. It's $23 and lasts for a long time.

Eyebrows: Brow Wiz by Anastasia Beverly Hills (Colour: Taupe)

Hello Eyebrows, it's nice to meet you, I'm Alexandra. That is literally what happened when this angel of a makeup man hooked me up with this wiz stick.  The colour is natural and it creates a look says "you must be mistaken, I've always had these fabulous eyebrows."It's easy to put on and my fellow blondes can turn your white eyebrows into something magical and well shaped. This wiz stick will solve any eyebrow issues you may have so just order it. $27 from Sephora.  I have tried her other powders and gels, but this is as easy and perfect as it gets!

So there you have it, a few of my favourites.

Our Trip to Singapore; Shalini & Zee's Weddings!

This post is way overdue, but I still had to share!

In January we went on a trip of a lifetime to Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Hong Kong. My roommate from University in Australia - Shalini was getting married. It was an unforgettable, adventure! Shalini had 2 weddings a Indian one and traditional one and I got to be a bridesmaid for both.

When I lived in Australia I helped set these two love birds up. I can't think of two more amazing people! Thank you for including my whole family in your special days!!!

The pictures are not displayed very nice or even in order, but here they are. Wayyy better than these pictures is their unbelievably beautiful wedding video, which you can check out HERE
Shalini and Zee are the two sweetest, funniest, bestest friends you could have; their only down fall is their area code lol
